Abstract: This experiment was conducted to study the effect of dietary fatty acid composition on growth performance, nutrient digestion and nitrogen metabolism of Silver fox in growing period.Twenty male Silver foxes aged 12 weeks with a similar body weight were randomly divided into 2 groups with 10 replicates per group and 1 Silver fox per replicate, and they were fed diets supplementing 10% soybean oil (soybean oil group) and 10% mixture oil (chanterelle:soybean oil=1:1) (mixture oil group), respectively. The whole experiment period was 151 d, including two phases of days 90 to 145 (growing-furring period) and days 146 to 240 (winter fur-growthing period). The results showed that dietary fatty acid composition had no effect on the average daily feed intake and F/G (P>0.05), but the everage daily gain from soybean oil group was significantly higher than that from mixture oil group in the growing-furring period (P<0.05).Dietary fatty acid composition had no effect on the digestibility of protein and carbohydrate (P>0.05), but the digestibility of fat from soybean oil group was significantly higher than that from mixture oil group in the growing-furring period (P<0.05).Dietary fatty acid composition also had no effect on the N metabolism (P>0.05), but the biological value of protein and nitrogen retention in mixture oil group were significantly and extremely significantly higher than that in soybean oil group in the winter fur-growthing period (P<0.05;P<0.01), respectively.Considering all the factors, soybean oil was considered to be an optimal fat source in the diets for Silver foxes in the growing-furring period and oil mixture (chanterelle:soybean oil=1:1) was the optimal fat source for Silver foxes in the winter fur-growing period in terms of best growth performance.

Key words: Silver fox; fatty acid composition; growth performance; digestion metabolism
