Study on SNPs of the FSHβ Gene and its Association with Litter Sizes of Tianfu Goat

Abstract: In this study,334 Tianfu goats, Boer and Chengdu Ma goats were used to analyze Pβ gene polymorphism by PCR-SSCP. Results indicated that there was one mutation site in the 5′regulatory region of FSHβ gene among three types of the goat, that was nucleobase A in place of nucleobase G in 712 site. The Chi-square test for goodness of fit showed that the frequencies of the Pβ genotypes in the population of Tianfu goats and Chengdu Ma goats agreed with Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (P>0.05),while the Boer goat significantly deviated it (P<0.01). The results indicated that the mutation in the 5′regulatory region significantly affected the litter sizes of goat, therefore, it could be preliminarily deduced that FSHβ gene was probably a major gene or a QTL linked gene which associated with reproduction traits in goat.
