Abstract: A total of 482 pigs from Landrace, Large White, Duroc, Shanxi White, Shanxi Black, and Mashen were used to detect the Hal gene by PCR-RFLP. The results showed that all individuals from Shanxi Black and Mashen were negative with the genotype of NN. There were two types of pigs, NN and Nn, in the breeds of Landrace, Large White, Duroc and Shanxi White. The allele frequencies for Haln in Landrace, Large White, Duroc and Shanxi White were 4.1%, 1.8%, 1.4%, and 1.7%, respectively. The molecular test for Hal gene should be performed to produce the negative Hal gene population in future pig breeding program.
