Abstract: Somatic cell count (SCC) is a test parameter for bovine mastitis and milk quality. In order to understand the correlation between SCC and some milk components in one buffalo dairy farm in Nanning area, 152 fresh milk samples at early lactation stage were randomly chosen and SCC, specific gravity(SP), protein, total solid and nonfat solid, lactose levels of milk were determined, correlation among them was analyzed. The results showed that 88.16% of samples had SCC less than 50×104/mL, 1.97% of samples had SCC more than 10×105/mL. SCC had an increasing trend with milk fat, but SCC had an increasing trend with the decrease of milk SP, milk protein, lactose, and nonfat solid level. There was a extremly significant negative correlation between SCC and lactose, between SCC and nonfat solid (P<0.01). In conclusion, SCC was not only significantly related to the milk lactose and nonfat solid level, but also associated with metabolic status of dairy buffalo cows postpartum.
