Abstract: The substituent effects on neuraminidase (NA) inhibitory effect of flavonoids have been studied and could be used to provide experimental data for the exploitation of flavonoids as NA inhibitors. An assay method for evaluating the inhibitory activity of compounds on influenza viral NA was established and was used to evaluate the inhibitory effects of four flavone derivatives. Apigenin-7-glucoside and apigenin possessed inhibitory activity on H9N2 influenza viral NAs. Linarin and wogonoside did not possess inhibitory activity on H9N2 influenza viral NAs. The 4'-OH were essential for NA inhibitory effects of flavonoids and the 7-glycosidic bond could increase NA inhibition of flavonoids.
