Abstract: Methane emissions from the rumen and the excreta of ruminants are an important source of this greenhouse gas. But the quantification of methane emission from manure lasts for a long time, and it is difficult to detect the amount of methane emission, so the research on the methane emission from manure is neglected. This review introduces the techniques developed for quantification of manure-derived methane emission, and discusses the relevant factors influencing the amount of methane emission from manure, finally points out that it is indispensable to evaluate the strategies that can adjust and control methane emissions from the rumen and the excreta of ruminants simultaneously.
