Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most important pathogens that cause several primary infections and food poisoning in both human and animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and drug resistance of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from clinical healthy goats in Sichuan province. A total of 32 nasal swabs were collected from 4 goat farms in Sichuan province and 11 strains of Staphylococcus aureus were isolated and identified, the positive rate was 34.4%. The resistance of the isolates to 11 antibacterial agents was analyzed. The result suggested that the resistance rate of isolates to Ampicillin was 72.7% while all strains were sensitive for other 10 antibacterial agents, and no Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains were detected. This study showed that Staphylococcus aureus were prevalent among healthy goats in Sichuan and the slaughtering process should be standardized and supervised strictly in order to reduce contamination of Staphylococcus aureus in food.
