Abstract: The genetic diversity of mitochondrial DNA D-loop 5′-terminal partial sequences of 378 individuals in eight Chinese goat (Capra hiruc) breeds were analysised by PCR-SSCP technology. The results show that seven haplotypes (A, B, C, D, E, F and G) with the percentage of 1.9% in 378 animals were obtained in eight populations. The haplotype diversity was higher as 0.8003 for the Taihang black goat, and lower as 0.5772 for the Hongtong Milking goat, The results showed that the genetic diversity of Chinese goats is abundant.
