Effect of Betaine on Reproductive Performance and its Mechanism in Animals

Abstract: Betaine is a nutritional feed additive acting as a methyl donor involved in the methionine cycle.Recently, studies have found that betaine may improve the reproductive performance of livestock and poultry, mainly through decreasing homocysteine concentration and increasing the reproductive-related hormones.It also has effects on regulation of energy metabolism and anti-stress.This article will review the effect of betaine on reproductive performance of livestock and poultry and its mechanism.
