Abstract: PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing approaches were applied to assess the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and analyze the population genetics of heart fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) gene of two goat breeds in Jiangsu province. The results showed that only the 132 G/C mutation was detected at the H-FABP gene exon 2 of the amplified fragments, with the formation of GG and GC genotypes. Homozygous GG was the dominant genotype of two goat groups, and the locus was at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Heterozygosity, effective number of alleles and polymorphism information content of Huanghuai goat population was higher than the Yangtze River Delta white goat populations, indicating a relatively large degree of genetic variation and more abundant genetic diversity within population.
