Abstract: Along with the extensive use of antibiotics in clinical prevention and treatment, the problem of bacterial drug resistance is on the rise, especially the numbers of pan-drug resistance strains and multi-drug resistance strains increase obviously. It is hard for drug resistance to be generated by Chinese herbs with special antimicrobial mechanism. Therefore, the research and development of antagonizing drug-resistance Chinese herbs and the study of their antimicrobial mechanism draw more and more attention. Natural flavonoids possess certain antimicrobial activity and most species of them have strong inhibiting effect but little untoward effect on gram-positive bacterium such as S.aureus, Streptococcus and Bacillus subtilis. What's more, it is difficult for them to develop drug resistance. The antimicrobial action and antimicrobial mechanism of flavonoids were summarized in order to provide theoretical basis for further study of flavonoids antagonizing drug-resistance bacteria agents in this review.
