Abstract: The effects of formic acid on the fermentation quality, nutrient, biochemical oxygen demand of the watermelon skin silage were studied. The watermelon skin of Guilongxian and Guanlong with 0.3% and 0.6% of formic acid were bagged ensilaged. After sampled and analyzed, the results showed that in comparison with CK, formic acid significantly decreased the pH value, NDF and ADF content of watermelon skin silage(P<0.05), and there were no significant difference in the CP content, amount of the effluent , and BOD5 of effluent. The CP content of Guilongxian watermelon skin silage were significantly lower that of Guanlong(P<0.05), while the NDF and ADF content significant higher(P<0.05).
