Abstract: Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) is a serine/threonine protein kinase. The abnormal activities of mTOR signaling pathways are tightly related to tumorigenesis and neurodegenerative diseases. mTOR is a potential therapeutic target.Apart from rapamycin and homologues, many new mTOR inhibitors have come into market. The structure, function, signaling pathway and inhibitors of mTOR are reviewed in this article.

Key words: mTOR; signaling pathway; mTOR inhibitors
