Abstract: Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) is a unique member of the selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidases in mammals with multifunctional function. It acts as a reducing enzyme of peroxidized phospholipids and thiols and as a structural protein; it plays a pivotal role in apoptosis. The progresses of the function, molecular characteristic, tissue expression and regulation of expression were previewed in the article.

Key words: PHGPx; biological function; molecular characteristic; expression regulation
