Abstract: Myostatin(MSTN), also called growth differentiation factor-8 (GDF-8), could restrain the proliferation and differentiation of skeletal myoblasts through restraining the transcriptional activity of the positive regulation factor(myogenic determination gene) as the negative regulation factor of the growth and differentiation on muscle. MSTN gene had high mutation during evolution. In addition, its quantity and range of expression were different on different animals. Its expression, biology function, mechanism of action and research progress on different animals were elaborated in this paper.
