Abstract: The partial 28S ribosomal RNA sequences of three different Eimeria tellena strains isolated from Guangdong province were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and compared with relevant sequences of E.tellena, E. acervulina, Sarcocystis muris, T.gondii available in GenBankTM. The results showed that the partial 28S rRNA sequence of three E.tellena strains was 1172 bp in length with no nucleotide difference in each other, and only one base difference found with E.tellena in GenBankTM, revealing highly conservative within E.tellena. There were distinct sequence differences found comparing with E.acervulina, S.muris and T.gondii, which demonstrated 28S rRNA could be used as a genetic marker for the population genetic studies on different species of Eimeria and other apicomplexan parasites.
