Concentration Changes of E2 and P4 in Peripheral Blood during Estrus of Bamei Mutton Sheep and Their Relationship with Ovulation Rate

Abstract: Concentration changes in each reproductive hormones during sheep oestrus cycle are closely related with follicular development, maturation and ovulation. In order to study the dynamic changes of the serum reproductive hormones of the Bamei Mutton sheep and their relationship with ovulation rate, the electrochemical method was used to measure serum concentrations of two steroid hormones (E2 and P4) for 12 adult ewes during estrus, and the variance analysis procedures of the SAS 9.0 were used to analyze the relationship between hormone concentration and ovulation rate. The results showed that variation of the two hormones were different between the laying-single-egg group and the laying-double-eggs group sheep. Concentration of E2 firstly decreased and then increased in laying-single-egg group, and continuously declined in laying-double-eggs group. Concentration of P4 continuously increased in laying-single-egg group, and firstly increased and then decreased in laying-double-eggs group. Concentration differences of E2 and P4 at each time point between the two groups were not significant(P>0.05)。
