Abstract: RNA interference (RNAi) is a phenomenon of post-transcript gene silencing induced by double strand RNA and a new mechanism of regulating gene expressing, which widely exists in epiphyte, plants and animals. So far,a number of tests have proved that RNAi as a new method to study gene function has played a very effective role in studying of animal breeding. This study aimed to introduce the discovery of RNA interference, molecular mechanism, role of the characteristics, the significance of biology and wide application of RNAi in animal breeding.

Key words: RNA interference; double strand RNA; small interfering RNA; animal breeding
