Abstract:

To understand the infection status of ostrich Coccidium spp.,a total of 582 fresh stool samples from six sampling points in Zhengzhou area were examined by Shether’s sugar floatation technique. The results showed that 273 samples were Coccidium-positive,with the infection rate of 46.91%. There was significant difference in infection rate in different sampling points (P<0.01). Coccidium spp. mainly infect the 0 to 3 months ostriches, and the difference between infection rate and age was statistically significant (P<0.01). The average size of oocysts obtained was 23.85 μm × 21.88 μm,with the oocyst index of 1.06. The oocysts were identified as Isospora struthionis based on the shape data measured. 
