Abstract: Brainderived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a small dimmeric protein, structurally related to nerve growth factor. which is abundantly and widely expressed in the adult mammalian brain. BDNF plays an important role in the growth, development, differentiation, maintenance and regeneration of various types of neurons in the CNS and has potential application to the treatment of brain injury and neurodegenerative diseases. In this paper, the molecular and cellular biology and potential clinical application of BDNF were reviewed.
