Abstract: The experiment was conducted to study the antimicrobial activity of essential oil from Wedelia trilobata(L.) Hitchc. to the common pathogenic bacterias on livestock and aquaculture. The essential oil was extracted from Wedelia trilobata(L.) Hitchc. by steam distillation, and then its antimicrobial activity and chemical composition were assayed. The results showed the essential oil of Wedelia trilobata(L.) Hitchc. had significant inhibitory effect on 7 kinds of bacteria tested, and when the concentration of the essential oil was higher, the antibacterial activity was enhanced.Forty-eight ingredients were identified from Wedelia trilobata(L.) Hitchc.by GC-MS, the maor components were Tricycloheptane,1,3,3-trimethyl-3-Carene,alpha.-Phllandrene,Caryophyllene oxide, etc.

Key words: the essential oil of Wedelia trilobata(L.) Hitchc.; antimicrobial activity; GC-MS
