Abstract: A total of 12 nasal swabs and 4 lung specimens were collected from a goat flock with infectious pleuropneumonic disease in Lezhi, Sichuan province. Pathogen isolation and PCR detection were performed for all samples. The results showed that Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae was isolated and identified from 9 nasal swabs and all 4 lung specimens, while any of Mycoplasma mycoides cluster members, Pasteurella multocida or Mannheimia haemolytica was not found. This indicated that Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae is responsible for the pleuropneumonic disease in this flock. It is also suggested that Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae is one of the important pathogens causing Mycoplasma pneumoniae in goats.
