Abstract: Hepatitis E virus (HEV), the sole member of the genus hepevirus in the family of hepeviridae, is the major cause of viral hepatitis. Transmission of HEV occurs primarily by the fecal-oral route. It has great significance in the prevention and control of food-borne HEV, xenotransplantation, as well as the use of the source of pig cell. The progress on the epidemiology, route of transmission, animal host and artificial infection experiment in recent years was reviewed in this paper.
