Abstract: In recent years, canine intervertebral disc herniation has been more and more common in pet clinic. As the pathogenesis of this disease is complex and the disease process is chronic, it’s very difficult to diagnosis. Meanwhile the cure rate will be low if surgical treatment of the disease is applied. Clinical practice showed that the application of electro-acupuncture combined with drugs for treatment of the disease would improve the cure rate substantially. In this paper, the causes and diagnosis of canine intervertebral disc herniation were described, and the mechanism of acupuncture combined with drugs for the treatment of the disease was explained. So it would provide theoretical guidance for the disease diagnosis and lay a solid foundation for the electro-acupuncture combined with drugs treatment programs to promote.
