The Study on the Physical and Chemical Properties of Wool in Chinese Super Fine Wool Merino and Gray Evaluation

Abstract: The physical and chemical properties of wool were assayed, the correlations between these properties and the main economic traits were analyzed in super fine wool sheep and the wool qualities were evaluated by gray theory in different strains of Chinese Merino. The results show that: the average fiber diameter of super fine wool strain is significantly lower than the other strains(P<0.01), but the average wool curvature is significantly increased (P<0.05); there is no correlation between fiber diameter and the other traits (P>0.05); wool yield increase with the increase of wool cluster length (P<0.05); antistress elasticity is enhanced (P<0.01); there are significant positive correlations among clean wool’ glossiness, whiteness and yellowness (P<0.05). The comprehensive quality of wool of super fine wool strain is the best comparing to other strains.
