Abstract: The objective of this study was to make the trait reconstruction of porcine multiple economic traits and to estimate the heritabilities for reconstructed traits. In this study, the work of trait reconstruction was totally involved in 24 economic traits in the growth, carcass and meat quality, respectively. Principal components analysis (PCA) was used to perform the statistical process of trait reconstruction. Four principal components were taken as novel traits after the statistical analyses. Then, descriptive statistics of four novel reconstructed traits was presented and animal model and DFREML procedures were used to estimate the heritabilities for 4 novel reconstructed traits. The analytical results showed that heritabilities for the first, second, third and fourth principal components were 0.87, 0.58, 0.49 and 0.56, respectively. The results of research showed that the treatment of trait reconstruction not only reduces the dimensionality for multiple economic traits but also results in the trend of higher values of heritabilities for new reconstructed traits, and the strategy for trait reconstruction would accelerate the rate of progress in multitrait breeding.
