Abstract: To study the effect of traditional Chinese medicine additive(TCMA) on Wenchang chicken. 180 female Wenchang chicken for a test of 6 weeks were randomly assigned to 5 groups with 3 replications each, each replication contain 12 chicken. Diets containing 0,600 mg aureomycin,0.1%,0.2% and 0.3% TCMA/kg were fed to group 1,group 2,goup 3,group 4 and group 5,respectively. Bodyweight and feed intake of chicken in same replication were measured per 7 days. At the age of 35 and 56 days,6 chicken with closed body weight from each group were slaughtered quickly to get pancreas and content of duodenum. Trypsinase activity and amylase activity of content of duodenum were measured. Results showed that, the daily weight gain of Wenchang chicken was improved significantly in the group containing 0.2% TCMA (P<0.05);trypsinase activity of the 0.2% TCMA group was improved(P>0.05) and the amylase activity of content of duodenum was increased significantly both in 0.2% TCMA group and 0.3% TCMA group (P<0.05).Therefore,trypsinase activity and amylase activity of content of duodenum can be improved by TCMA,a dose of 0.2% of the TCMA was suitable for Wenchang chicken.
