Abstract: The experiment was aimed to study the effects of alfalfa meal on lipid metabolism and antioxidization capacity. In the study, using randomized block experiment design, 120 rabbits were randomly divided into 6 groups. Rabbits in the 6 groups were fed experimental diets containing 0, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and 60% alfalfa meal, respectively. The experiment lasted for 45 days. The results showed that the concentration of triglyceride and total cholesterol of serum decreased with the amount of alfalfa meal increasing, except for group Ⅴ. With the increasing of alfalfa meal, the concentration of total cholesterol and triglyceride of liver and muscle decreased, however, there were no significant differences among the groups (P>0.05) in muscle total cholesterol content, except for group Ⅳ which was significantly lower than the control group (P<0.05). With the increasing of alfalfa meal, the activity of SOD and GSH-Px of serum, liver, and muscle were significantly increased (P<0.05), however, the concentration of malonaldehyde was significantly decreased (P<0.05). It indicated that the suitable content of alfalfa meal was 40% to 50%, which could reduce total cholesterol content of blood serum, liver and muscle, adjust the lipid metabolism and improve the oxidation resistance.
