Abstract: Some gilts demonstrated anorexia, fevers of up to 41 癈, cutaneous hyperemia, hyperpnea and/or dyspnea. Necropsy finds included enlargement and hemorrhage of lymph nodes, enlargement of spleen and liver, pneumonia and hemorrhage of heart, edema of lung, spleen and liver with some small focal areas of necrosis. Some lunate Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites were seen at lymph node smears stained with Giemsa. The Toxoplasma gondii, isolated by BALB/c mice, had high pathogenic to mice which were dead in 4 to 5 days after infection, and many tachyzoites could be found on ascites smears. According to the signs, lesions and the Toxoplasma gondii isolation, the disease of the gilts was diagnoses as porcine toxoplasmosis.
