Abstract: Leptin plays a critical role in animals’ intake regulation, energy metabolism, hormone secretion, bone metabolism, reproduction and development, immunity, and so on. The present review focused on the functional structures of leptin and its receptor, as well as their relationship with fat deposition and metabolism, about which the regulatory mechanism in swine was discussed further. An overview on the recent research and the possible development in the field was raised conclusively. 
