Abstract: The objective of this pepar is to establish the infection model for Streptococcus suis serotype 2 using ordinary long-white piglets and observe the pathological changes in infected ones. Eight piglets were randomly divided into control and test groups. The test group was given intravenous inoculation of blood contained SS2 and the control group was given saline inoculation. The pigs infected with SS2 in the test groups all died in 5 days with symptoms such as meningitis, inflammation of the pericardium, arthritis and septicemia. The typical clinical symptoms and pathological changes in the animals were similiar to the state of natural infection. The lung, spleen, lever and heart of infected pigs were all separated with the same bacteria as the inoculated ones. This study proves that pathological cases can be reproduced by giving intravenous inoculation of blood contained SS2 to the ordinary piglets. The successful development of the infection model will play an important role in the research of SS2 pathogenicity.
