Abstract: The objective of the present study is to evaluate the effect of a diet added polysaccharides of atractylodes macrocephala koidz (PAM) on the growth performance, the transformation rate of diet, the serum activities of 3 enzymes and the serum levels of 5 growth related hormones in weaned piglets. 60 crossbred piglets (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire, mean BW=8.5 kg) were randomly divided into 3 groups: a basal diet with no added PAM and antibiotic (control group),or 0.5% PAM,or antibiotic (15% chlortetracycline 100 mg/kg and 4% flavomycin 50 mg/kg).Comparing to the control group, the PAM group increased the average gain weight by 20.72% (P<0.05),transformation rate of diet by 5.81% (P<0.05),and the activities of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT),glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase (GOT) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) by 12.11% (P>0.05),7.21% (P>0.05) and 14.50% (P<0.05),respectively. Also,PAM group increased the levels of growth hormone (GH),insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I),3,5,3′-triiodothyronine (T3),3,5,3′,5′-tetraiodothyronine (T4) and cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) in serum by 30.77% (P<0.05),52.02% (P<0.05),47.60% (P<0.05),36.70% (P<0.05) and 21.15% (P<0.05),respectively. The results indicated that PAM improved the growth performance of weaned piglets through the endocrinal system. Furthermore,it is possible that PAM altered the growth performance of weaned piglets by up-regulating the synthesis and secretion of GH,IGF-1,T3,T4 and cAMP. 
