Abstract: A virulent strain of Pasterrella multocida was isolated and identified from ducks in Jiangxi province. The isolate was highly sensitive to cephalexin, cefatriaxone, cefazolin, sulfamethoxydiazine, SMZ-TMP and chloromycetin, medium sensitive to spectinomycin and kanamycin, lowly sensitive to cefotaxime, tetracycline, lincomycin and norfloxacin while insensitive to amoxicillin, penicillin, ampicillin and cefepime. The mortalities rates of chickens, ducks, mice and rabbits infected with the isolate within 24 h were 100%. The result indicated that the isolate was a virulent Pasteurella multocida.
