Abstract: Glycolysis exists in various organisms. It is the major energetic process in apicomplexan parasites. Glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) plays an important role in glycolysis, which closely related to the survival of parasites. GAPDH is proposed to be a potential target for antiparasitic drugs. This review will focus on glycolysis and the genetic analysis, mechanism and application of glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase in Apicomplexa.

Key words: Apicomplexa; glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH); drug target
