Abstract: In this paper, the significance and rencent progress of transgenic pigs rich in omega-3 fatty acids are presented. In our study, the sFat-1 gene was chemically synthesized according to the sequence from Caenorhabditis briggssae,and constructed into a mammal expression vector pcDNA3.1sFat-lEGFP. Transgenic sFat-1 gene mice were generated by microinjection of vector into pronuclear zygotes. A modified n-3 fatty acid desaturase gene from C. Briggsae produced high proportion of DHA and DPA in transgenic mice. Based on Function Analysis of n-3 Fatty Acid Desaturase Gene sFat-1, porcine fetal fibroblasts were transfected with vector pcDNA3.1sFat-lEGFP. Positive colony was chosed as donors for nuclear transfer to enucleated MⅡoocytes, cloning transgenic pigs rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
