Abstract: Livestock and poultry are easy to suffer from virus infection during the breeding process, which causes serious economic losses to the breeding industries. In addition, some viruses belong to zoonotic pathogens (including Japanese encephalitis virus and Foot-and-mouth disease virus),which pose potential threats to the public health of livestock workers and consumers. Therefore, the prevention and control of livestock and poultry viruses not only can reduce economic losses in the breeding industry, but also is very important for safeguarding public health.Histone deacetylases (HDACs) belong to the epigenetic modification enzymes, which affect gene expression by regulating the histone acetylation process, so as to participate in various life activity processes.Numerous studies have shown that HDACs participate in various animal virus infection processes by interacting with viral proteins or influencing cellular signaling pathways, and HDAC inhibitor treatment can inhibit the replication of some viruses (such as Pseudorabies virus and Marek’s disease virus),suggesting that HDACs can serve as broad-spectrum antiviral drug targets against animal virus infection.Deeper investigation of the involvement of HDACs in livestock and poultry virus infection is of great significance for the prevention and control of livestock and poultry virus infection. The author briefly introduces HDACs and their inhibitors, mainly summarizes the roles and mechanisms of HDACs in animal virus infection. This review will provide reference for in-depth research on the regulation of HDACs in livestock and poultry virus infection, and provide guidance for developing novel antiviral agents against virus infection.
