Abstract: This assay was aimed to study the differences of different doses of streptozocin(STZ) such as 65,70 and 75 mg/kg,and different genders in establishing diabetic cataract models of rats.Single intraperitoneally injection of different doses of STZ to establish male and female diabetic cataract. We measured blood sugar after 36 h of injection, examined diabetic cataract after three weeks, measured food and drink consumption every day and weight changes every week, etc. The results showed that 70 mg/kg STZ was faster than 65 mg/kg STZ in establishing diabetic cataract, and had lower motality compared with 75 mg/kg STZ.We found that 70 mg/kg STZ was more superiority than the other two doses in the time required for the appearance of cataract, model stability and other aspects. Besides, male rats was more suitable in establishing diabetic cataract models.
