Abstract: To find the nutritive incentives of kidney stones on beef cattle in Ningxia, the nutrient content of diet, the element of the kidney stone and the blood biochemical index were measured. The results showed that there were 23 beef cattle detected with kidney stones within 40 samples. The incidence of a disease was 57.5%. The forage to concentrate ratio, calcium content and phosphorus content in the diet were too high, but calcium-phosphorus ratio in the diet was too low. Stone energy spectrum analysis showed that the main chemical components were phosphorus and magnesium, preliminary judgment for ammonium magnesium phosphate or potassium phosphate magnesium. The serum phosphorus and the serum magnesium were higher than reference standard, while the serum calcium was lower. High forage to concentrate ratio, low calcium-phosphorus ratio and diet with high calcium and high phosphorus were the nutritive incentives of kidney stones on beef cattle in Ningxia. The magnesium content in diet might also have a positive effect on formulation of kidney stone.

Key words: kidney stone; forage to concentrate ratio; calcium-phosphorus ratio; magnesium
