Abstract: Antimicrobial peptides belongs to a unique and diverse group of small molecular proteins which are an evolutionarily conserved component of the innate immune response. Nowadays, the antimicrobial peptides are found to be advantageous over conventional antibiotics and widely accepted to be an alternative for antibiotics. Many researches have proven that genetically engineering expression of antimicrobial peptides is the most cost-effective and desirable way to obtain antimicrobial peptides. Currently, the gene expression of antimicrobial peptides is mainly using E. coli and yeast expression system. This paper summarized research progress on the expression system of E.coli and yeast in terms of the development strategy and application of antimicrobial peptides, aiming at providing a reference for the development and production of antimicrobial peptides.
