Abstract: Seminal plasma proteins show striking effects on spermatozoa function in a variety of reproductive processes, including acrosome reaction, sperm capacitation, sperm storage, competition, and fertilization. Seminal plasma proteins were isolated and identified for a long history, several of major seminal plasma proteins have been identified, such as bovine seminal protein, heat shock protein, cystein-rich secretory protein. Proteome is applied successfully in seminal plasma proteins research, has given to new research strategies and improved the efficiency of researchers in exploring the unknown field of seminal plasma. This review introduced some essential information about seminal plasma proteins associated with spermatozoa function and progress in seminal plasma proteome, and provides valuable information to clarify the relationship between seminal plasma proteins and sperm capacitation, sperm storage, and fertilization function at the protein level.
