Abstract: Quantification methods of rumen microbes mainly include molecular and traditional methods which comprise classical roll-tube technique and most probable number technique. Many studies proved the results of numbering microbes with traditional method were possiblely lower. However, quantification of important groups or species using molecular-based procedures can help explain their role in ruminal metabolism but also to provide perspective for more qualitative approaches. This paper reviewed quantification methods development phases of rumen microbes and recent studies, focusing on quantitative aspects of those using molecular biology approaches.
Key words: rumen microbes; traditional method quantification; molecular method quantification
